TOPIC: SEEKING JESUS FOR THE WRONG REASONS
TEXT: JOHN 6:25-35
It is common to see many professed Christians move from one 'church' assembly to the other pretending to be seeking for a living church when in actual fact they are searching for a place where 'pseudo' miracles are performed. Such people are gullible and become enslaved to 'businessmen of God.' People who attend such 'shrine churches' always ask the 'man of God' to 'prophesy something' into their lives, things that will thrill their eyes and tingle their ears. It is no longer a matter of declaring what God says and demands from them but speaking what they want to hear. Our text reveals that Jesus knew the mind of the people looking for Him as they asked, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” (vs. 25). Jesus made them know that their motive was corrupt because they were seeking Him for what they will get out of him, such as food that can spoil and not endure for eternity (vs. 26-27). Men are preoccupied with the temporal things of life. That is why they always search in the wrong places. The revealed truth from Jesus led to the question, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” In a simple statement, Jesus said, “Believe in the one he has sent,” (vs. 28-29). Not satisfied with that 'too simple' answer, the people still demanded for more signs and miracles before they believe Him. The manna they ate in the wilderness was a 'miracle by Moses' so they believed, but Jesus corrected their faulty understanding and declared Himself the true Bread of Life that came from God, (vs. 33-36).
Would you from today seek and worship Jesus because He is the Bread of Life and the Saviour of your soul?
May I seek You for who You are and worship You as the Lord of my life, Amen.
