TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 14: 13 - 25

The Corinthian believers were speaking in tongues without interpretation, thus making it unprofitable to other people who could not understand what they were saying. Speaking in tongues was supposed to be a sign to unbelievers (Acts 2). After speaking in tongues, believers were supposed to explain what was said and give credit to God. This would convince the unbelievers that the Christian faith is real and in the process motivate them to give their lives to Christ.

While this is one way to reach unbelievers, it is also important to note that clear preaching is usually better, as stated in verse 5.

Does speaking in tongues make you think that you are better than those who don't?

O Lord, let there be sanity in the Church as we use our spiritual gifts, in Jesus name, Amen.
