TOPIC: GOD OR MONEY? TEXT: MATHEW 6:24-34 It is generally believed that money or wealth does not have a limit. Thus, the pursuit of money never ends. Many have tried to get satisfaction through wealth but ended up never getting enough of it. According to King Solomon, chasing after wealth is an endless and empty exercise (Ecclesiastes 1:1-8). In view of this, Christ gave harped on the need to choose whether to serve God or money (wealth). This shows that the love of money can lead one away from God and His service. Therefore, the Lord advises man to seek God’s righteousness and eschew pursuing worldly wealth. The Lord is not against working hard to earn money or wealth enough for someone and their family’s upkeep. But He emphasized the excesses of greed and selfish desire for wealth as one can be so anxious to acquire what they do not necessarily need because of greed. However, the Bible encourages hard work and wisdom in saving or preserving food for the time of need (Proverbs 6:6-8; II Timothy 3:6-10). No one uses this passage as a yardstick for his laziness. Even when we work hard to acquire wealth, we should always commit our efforts to the Lord (Psalms 127:1-2) and continually lift God higher above our interests and desires.
Who/what is first in your life, God or money (wealth)? PRAYER
