TOPIC: HUMILITY ATTRACTS GOD TEXT: ISAIAH 66: 1 – 2 Humility, according to C. J. Mahaney, is “Honestly assessing ourselves in the light of God’s holiness and our sinfulness.” When Isaiah saw and heard God’s glorious holiness being continuously repeated in chapter 6 verse 3 and he looked at himself, his sinful and human frailties, he suddenly broke down in humility and lamented: “Woe to me!... I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Throughout history, people have passionately sought to attract God’s attention through religious sacrifices, giving, prayer, fasting and even false humility, but to no avail (Isaiah 58:2-3). But here is something that is amazingly true: humility attracts God! In Isaiah 66:2, we read these words from the Lord: “This is the one to whom I will look, he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.” This profound passage points to an altogether different motivation and purpose for humility than we will ever find in the pages of a secular business manual.
QUESTION Do you sometimes get offended when people do not bow down to you as was the case with Haman and Mordecai? PRAYER Dear Lord, I admit that I am not as humble as I should be. Please forgive my arrogance and pride, for I ask, in Jesus name, Amen.
