TOPIC: WISE MEN ACKNOW-LEDGED JESUS AS KING
TEXT: MATTHEW 2:1-12
As we read yesterday, everything about Jesus was unusual and practically every event about Him was uncommon, totally unexpected. Our passage today continues on the same note with the experience of the wise men from the east. They came in search of a pre-ordained King of the Jews (vs. 1-2) in order to worship Him. This again caused unexpected disturbance in Jerusalem. How can another king be so recognised by such important wise men that they came all the way from their land where the star of the newly born baby king appeared? They were influential men of learning and authority, skilled scientists of their day, and were guided by a special star that appeared just about the time Jesus was born. Their unexpected question, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?” got Herod panicking. Everyone needs to be asked that question, for Jesus has already come and most are not aware of it, because they are preoccupied with selfish and worldly affairs. Even those who were expecting His coming got confused because He didn't come the way they had expected, like a king and not a humble child. King Herod schemed to get Him killed before He posed a threat to his throne. But his schemes failed, as the wise men were warned in a dream to depart to their country another way.
Do you acknowledge Jesus as King and worthy of your worships as the wise men did?
Grant me the grace, dear Lord, to offer unto You gifts worthy for the King of my life, Amen.
