TOPIC: THE FALL BEGINS GRADUALLY
TEXT: 1 KINGS 11:1-13
King Solomon's love for women and marriage to many wives, especially foreign and ungodly ones, was a direct disobedience to the Lord's commands (Deuteronomy 17:16-17). From today's passage, we see that King Solomon began backsliding through marrying many wives, most of whom were foreigners and ungodly. Later, he also accumulated so much wealth and horses. As a result, he turned his heart and trust from God to worshipping the foreign idolatrous gods and relying more on his accumulated wealth and horses for security.
In most cases, a man of God does not fall at once. It begins gradually, weakening the person, as it happened to King Solomon, until he becomes so weak that he finally collapses. Itis only at that final stage that many people realize that all was not well with that man of God. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 says: "Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall." We should be very careful.
