ECWA FOOD FOR THE DAY - Saturday 9th October 2021

TOPIC: PROFANING THE SABBATH TEXT: NEHEMIAH 13: 15–22 In the passage under consideration, the word Sabbath appears about ten times. The Torah’s command to keep the Sabbath holy takes four verses of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:8-11. But the Israelites often violated this commandment by forgetting that they had made a commitment to the Lord. To get over this challenge, Nehemiah had to take the proactive measure of directing that the gates of Jerusalem be shut down on the evening before the Sabbath (vs. 19). Guardsmen were stationed at the gates to stop the importation of goods into Jerusalem on the Sabbath. The Levites were directed to take over guarding the gates after purifying themselves. Our Sabbath is Sunday, the first day of the week when Jesus rose up from the dead. How much importance do you attach to this day?

QUESTION

To what extent do you disrespect your own Sabbath (Sunday)? PRAYER

Oh Lord, stir up our Nehemiahs to see the urgent need for helping members reconsider their attitudes towards Sunday worship, in Jesus name, Amen.
