TOPIC: THE JOY OF FREEDOM FROM SIN
TEXT: JOHN 4:27-38
Freedom is a state of being free from any kind of slavery or from the power of another. The Samaritan woman had been under the slavery of sin and tormented by the consequences of her lifestyle. But her encounter with Jesus brought freedom from the restraint and social isolation of her community. No wonder, the overwhelming joy that launched her into taking the Good News back to her people (vs. 28, 29), who had heard about the coming Christ, but haven't found Him. Here, Jesus sat down talking with a woman “considered despicable, below His social standing and unfit to be seen with in public,” (vs. 27). Now she could boldly return to the city with the simple message, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” Every believer should realise that he is saved to serve by labouring for Christ, just as the woman did. There's always a reward for labouring faithfully for Christ, for the work has been made easy by the early servants who had planted the seed into men's hearts, (vs. 36-38).
How have you been sharing the Good News of the gospel you hear with others that have need of it?
Dear Lord, having saved me, forgive my neglect of labouring for the salvation of others, Amen.
