TOPIC: GIFTED TO SERVE HIS PEOPLE
TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:15-25
Soon after the departure of Elijah and the empowerment of Elisha, prophets from Jericho approached and offered to serve him. Their first assignment was to help Elisha, against his will, to look for Elijah whom they insisted may have been dropped in a place very far away. Elisha's first task was to help neutralise the poison in Jericho's drinking water and restore their land from barrennes to fruitfulness. Unfortunately, Elisha had an encounter in Bethel with a bunch of rude boys and killed about 42 of them through a bear which attacked them. Was this right? Wasn't there a better way he could have dealt with the unruly boys? Humanly speaking, we could say that it was not right because he was expected to serve his people, wherever they might be found. Today, we have many self acclaimed church leaders who claim to have power from God to serve the Church but they use such so-called power for self-enrichment, self promotion and glory, building their little kingdoms, etc. As a child of God, especially a church leader you have been gifted to serve the Church, edify the body of Christ and empower others so that they can also serve the Church.
Do you feel God has gifted you in a special way? What have you used that gift for in the last six months?
I receive power from the Holy Spirit to continue to use my giftedness for the good of the Church and help prepare others do the work of ministry in the Church, in Jesus name, Amen.
