TOPIC: RESPONSE TO JESUS' CLAIM

TEXT: JOHN 7:25-31

The ordinary Jews were facing the dilemma of the religious leaders seeing Jesus preach publicly, they neither said anything to Him, nor got Him arrested. “Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Christ?” Read (vs. 25, 26) again. They reasoned in their minds and out of ignorance and tragic the wrong conclusions. They asked, “Is this the one who is so opposed and feared? Is he the one whom they seek to kill? He speaks so openly and boldly, and He is not stopped. Is he indeed the Messiah?” The local residents came to the dangerous conclusion that Jesus is not the Messiah because they knew His 'origin'. They knew all about His family and how He grew up in their midst. Therefore, they concluded that He was a mere man, a carpenter from Nazareth and, therefore, couldn't be from God. Man often fall into confusion when He fails to either study and understand the word of God or listen to the message God is sending to him through His servants. In today's passage, Jesus continues to draw their attention to His true origin. While still teaching in the temple court, and not minding any opposition or threats, Jesus said, “I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him. But I know him…”(vs. 27-30). The religious leaders felt threatened and tried to seize Him but couldn't because His time had not yet come and many still believed in Him, (vs. 31).
