TOPIC: GOD'S GREAT LOVE
TEXT: JOHN 3:16-21
Today's passage, especially (vs.16-17), is one of the most well-known Scriptures. It is very brief but loaded with eternal truth that no man can avoid responding to, either positively or negatively. It has to do with the eternal choices a man must make. God's greatest love is revealed by Jesus and demands a thoughtful response. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (vs. 16). The idea that God loves the 'world' was strange to the religious Jews who thought it was only the 'true' Jews that are loved by God and not the Gentiles who are considered as vile, thieves, murderers, alcoholics, etc. God loves every person, not just the religious and the good. He does not love only the people who love Him. He loves everyone, even the unlovely and the unloving for He said, “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them in also” (John 10:16). God, by His nature of 'love' (1Jn.4:8, 16; Rom.5:8), made provisions for the salvation of all of the human race with a condition to be met. Read (vs. 18) again to see the conditions for accessing the effects of this love: “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already….”
What have you done with the love God expressed by giving Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for man's sins?
Dear Lord, thanks for helping me to respond to Your love by believing and accepting Jesus as my Lord. Help me to show others Your great love that they may also respond positively, Amen.
