TOPIC: CHILDREN OF THE KINGDOM AND PIETY (II) TEXT: MATTHEW 6: 7 - 15
PRAYER is the way a person communicates with God, his creator in heaven. It is a special time during which one has fellowship with his Father by praising and telling Him his feelings, gratitude and requests.
In the Scripture, committed and godly Jews prayed early in the morning, at noon and in the evening (Deuteronomy 6:10; Acts 3:1). But in Jesus' time, overzealous Pharisees turned this good practice into a hypocritical and ceremonial practice as they acted to attract public attention. Prayer became an act of showmanship rather than serious fellowship with God.
Our Lord prefers simple and meaningful prayers said to the Father in heaven alone and not seeking to please the Church.
QUESTION How would you assess your prayer life in view of today's passage?
Dear Lord, guide me to be committed to You whenever I pray, in Jesus name, Amen.
