TOPIC: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHRIST AND THE CHURCH
TEXT: EPHESIANS 5: 22 – 33
Today, a call has been made for wives to yield to their husbands the way the church does to Christ. The headship of a husband to his wife does not connote a master/slave relationship. Imagine the way we relate with Christ so as to better understand v.24. The submission of a wife to her husband should be in everything. Verse 25 commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the Church. But it is unfortunate that many Christian husbands place 'submission' of their wives above the 'love' they are called to demonstrate, (vs 25-28). A husband should love his wife the way he loves his own body, vs 28-29. This act of yielding and loving is better demonstrated when the two (husband and wife) leave their parents and cling to each other and understand themselves as one, vs 30. The mystery that exists between Christ and the Church (love and respect) is what a husband and wife are enjoined to demonstrate in marriage.
In what way is your marriage a reflection of the relationship between Christ and the Church?
Lord, forgive me for demanding too much from my spouse without reciprocating. Open my inner mind to understand how You love the church so that I do the same to my spouse today, Amen.
