TOPIC: WORTHLESSNESS OF THE FLESH TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 3 : 3 - 9 Today, a lot of people boast about their wealth, position, certificates, education, etc. But today's text is telling us that the flesh is nothing. The word 'flesh' has been used to mean different things. It is a coverings of the bones (2 Cor. 12:7). Flesh is also seen as a willing instrument of sin (Romans 6:19; 8:3-9). However, to Apostle Paul, the flesh is nothing. He saw himself as someone who could glorify the flesh but chose to glorify Christ instead (vs. 3). Despite all of Paul's credentials, he chose to pursue the knowledge of God (vs. 3-9). This is where self-denial comes in for the sake of Christ (Luke 14:33; 18:29).
QUESTION Do you boast about your accomplishments, position, certificates, etc? PRAYER Oh Lord, I am sorry for glorifying my efforts and material things rather than Christ. Help me to pursue the glory and the knowledge of God, in Christ's name, Amen.
