TOPIC:INNER ASSESSMENT TEXT: MATTHEW 16 : 13 - 23 Today's passage presents what is almost impossible for many Christian families to do. We always prefer people that we have never met to assess us rather than those we relate with daily. The former are more likely to make positive comments about you because they do not know you the way your immediate family does. Jesus' disciples were more or less His immediate family members. Jesus asked them a probing question about what others thought about Him. In vs. 14, they responded that some likened Him to John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah and other related prophets. But Jesus made the question even tougher by demanding to know what the disciples themselves thought about Him (vs. 15). Peter's response in vs 16 was not just a statement but his assessment of Jesus. Any believer who seeks to know his real self must have the courage to ask members of his immediate family what they think about him. They are the right people that can describe who you are spiritually.
QUESTION Have you ever asked members of your family to assess your spiritual life? PRAYER Dear Father, forgive us for not emulating You by offering ourselves to our families for evaluation. Teach me the humility of asking them to assess me so that I may adjust my spiritual life accordingly, in Jesus name, Amen.
