TOPIC: I AM NOT BETTER THAN PETER
TEXT: JOHN 18:15-27
Jesus was at the residence of the High Priest, Anas, where the quick trial began. They were in a hurry to do away with Jesus before the Sabbath. Because the Passover feast was also around the corner, the religious leaders planned to silence Jesus so as to, perhaps, allow them enjoy the Passover without anybody distracting attention from them. See the parallel between Jesus and Peter in these verses. Jesus was questioned by the high priest about His teachings and disciples and He answered them excellently. However, when an ordinary girl who had no power to punish Peter sought to link him with his Master, the disciple outrightly denied Him! A short while later, he did the same thing for the second time!
We might be angry with Peter today. but are we any better than him in our daily transactions and attitude to life's challenges? We are guilty of denying Jesus Christ in various aspects of our lives at one time or another.
Do you excuse yourself but point at others as worse sinners so that you can feel better than them?
Dear Lord Jesus, I ask You to forgive me because, like Peter, I have denied you many times and in different ways, in Jesus name, Amen.
