TOPIC: THIS DAY IS HOLY TEXT: NEHEMIAH 8:9-18 Think of the days you wake up in the morning and don't feel like talking with anybody. On such days, nothing seems to make you happy. Reflecting on today's passage, you notice a sense of unity among the Jewish leaders. The reading of the Torah gave them room for sober reflection that, on three occasions, the Levites stepped forward to remind the crowd that those days were holy to the Lord (vs. 9, 10, 11). Sometimes holiness and mourning cannot be separated. But in this case, he Levites understood the situation and felt that it was inappropriate to mourn when they were being fed the Word. The essence of your daily devotion is that it makes your day pure because you genuinely commit your anxieties and worries to God. Verse 18 shows that the occasion did not last for just one day. The celebration continued throughout the seventh day of the week. As a child of God, every day should be holy to you as long as the Word of God is your daily Compass.
In what way has today's reading challenged you?
Forgive my inability to realize that each day should be holy for me. Help me to create time for reading and meditating on Your Word, in Jesus name, Amen.
