TOPIC: GOD WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE FOOD
TEXT: 2 KINGS 4 : 38-44
These miracles remind us of the two different occasions where Jesus fed five and four thousand people (Mark 6:30ff; 8:1ff). Elisha multiplied twenty loaves of bread which were eaten by 100 people, with some leftovers.
The first miracle takes place during a famine in Gilgal which left people scavenging for whatever food they could lay their hands on. The green vegetable they thought would be food turned out to be poisonous.
During past famines in Nigeria, people were said to have dug ant hills to scoop grains accumulated over years. Elisha and the company of the prophets found themselves in this kind of dire situation.
The twenty loaves of bread were God's second solution to the famine. God is always on hand to feed us daily. Therefore, do not be discouraged even when He takes you through the season of famine.
Just as He raised the widow of Zarephath for Elijah and Elisha for the company of the prophets in their moments of needs, God will never abandon you.
Do you think that God who created you would fail to feed and nourish you?
Thank You, Lord Jesus, because "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." I will always trust You to do this, in Jesus name, Amen.
