TOPIC: OBEY GOD OR RECEIVE PUNISHMENT
TEXT: ISAIAH 1:1-8
The people of Israel were chosen and brought up by God to be His chosen race. God needed people that would trust and follow Him alone, people who would never share His loyalty and glory with any other gods or deities. Therefore, God gave them a special treatment above all other nations of the world so as to glorify Him on earth. But the chosen people went astray by following the deities of other nations around them. And God warned them about the dangers of their apostasy. They became so stubborn that they did not even recognize or respect their Creator who is God, their Sustainer, and Master. Therefore, God warned them so as to bring them back to Himself.
He intended to purify them through discipline. Being a holy and just God, He would never tolerate sin, neither would He destroy the sinner. Therefore, He brought other nations to conquer them as a means of purification.
Indeed our God loves us but He is also a just God that He does not tolerate sin. Therefore, the best choice is to always beware of sins and be ready to ask forgiveness through an obedient heart and acts. Though we are saved by grace through faith, we must live a life that glorifies our Lord through our good work (Eph. 2:8-10). However, we should not do good works for fear of punishment but as a result of our desire to please God, being led by the Holy Spirit.
In what way have you become stubborn to God?
Lord, forgive and create in me an obedient heart to serve You right, in Jesus name, Amen.
