TOPIC: THE WORD OF GOD IS OUR TRADITION

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 11:1-16

Paul was very emphatic in the statement in vs 1. Note the basis of the confidence: “ …as I follow Christ.” The Church was commended for keeping the ordinances as handed over to them. (see vs 2). Can you honestly make the same assertion? The tradition of the Church is to honour Christ (read Eph. 5:24).

The membership of the Church at Corinth comprised persons from different cultural and socio-economic groups. Issues about the necessity or otherwise of women covering their heads during worship sessions arose. Paul addressed this challenge in (vs. 3-10). Note Paul's reasons why women should cover their heads while praying in public: to honour the head, because of the angels and as a symbol of submission and to reverence God. (Note also that (vs 5a) implied that women shared similar ministerial activities with men). Vs. 11 reflects the equality of both men and women in Christ.

QUESTION
